The BMW 330d F30 is powered by BMW’s N57D30 engine, which is a single-turbo 3.0-litre straight-6. From the factory, the BMW 330d produces 255bhp and 413 lb-ft of torque, although this model is known to produce closer to 270bhp and 420 lb-ft on a rolling road, so BMW’s estimates are on the conservative side.

With a remap, the F30 330d transforms into a 335d killer. The standard 330d is often called the ‘poorer cousin’ of the 335d, but a remap sorts that. Our software remap adds a minimum 20 per cent power and torque increase. That translates to an engine pushing out a whopping 310+bhp and near 500 lb-ft of torque.

For customers with an xDrive 330d, all that power will be perfectly manageable. Simply plant your right foot like you usually do, and your Beemer will go like stink. For customers with a RWD 330d, all that extra power will result in a much more playful back end. However, that’s the point of a rear-wheel-drive beast isn’t it?

BMW F30 330d – Our Take

The BMW 3-Series is an excellent all-rounder with stunning looks, great kerb appeal and a spacious, family-friendly cabin. By throwing a 3.0-litre straight-6 diesel engine with 420 lb-ft of torque under the bonnet to create the 330d, BMW created what is essentially a hot-hatch-destroying saloon and estate car that gets over 45mpg.

The F30 330d is available with a traditional rear-wheel-drive setup, or with xDrive. Both have their own unique character. XDrive models offer better grip off the line, but they aren’t as agile because they are heavier, and because the suspension is setup higher. RWD BMW 330d models are, therefore, the better driver’s cars, but in truth, most people will enjoy the xDrive model more because you can plant your foot anytime and smoke most other cars.

The N57D30 engine in the F30 330d is an extremely strong unit with a good turbo. These engines can safely push out over 300bhp and near 500 lb-ft of torque. If you bought a 330d to save money over the 335d, a remap will make your 330d faster than a stock 335d. In fact, it would probably keep up with much more exotic machinery too.
