We’ve all been there.
You’re sat in your car at the traffic lights and you can’t be bothered anymore; your car isn’t fast enough, it doesn’t have Bluetooth or any other useful piece of technology, it doesn’t sound as meaty as it once did, and it doesn’t look as good as it did at the forecourt all those years ago.
It’s at this stage that you download the Autotrader app and begin your search for a new car.
But is that really necessary?
After all, buying a new car can cost a lot of money and if there’s only one or two things that annoy you about your car, then chances are there’s ways to rectify those annoyances. For example, did you know that older generation Volkswagen models with an RCD 310 head unit can have that unit swapped out with a touch-screen RCD 510 or even the sat-nav totting RNS 315 or RNS 510 models? With some simple sensor additions, your car could have DAB, Bluetooth, and satellite navigation for well under £1k.
Or if your current car isn’t satisfying your missus because of the jittery ride or it’s too harsh for your newborn, did you know that you can buy aftermarket springs and shocks that will deliver a subtler ride? Heck, if you’re loaded, you might even opt for Airride which will completely transform the ride quality. Again, this modification is going to cost way less than a new car.
Getting smoked by a car that’s twenty years older than yours or being unable to overtake an old lady in her diesel people carrier can be soul-breaking.
For this, there’s remapping.
Remapping can breathe new life into car ownership. Here at Hyperchips based in Manchester, we can remap your car’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) to improve performance. We achieve this by either removing the ECU from the car and modifying the software (often referred to as chip tuning) or through your car’s OBD port. Here’s what we can achieve:
Remapping Naturally aspirated engines: A remap on a naturally aspirated (non-turbo) engine is going to result in 10% gains in power and torque and a smoother power band.
Remapping Turbo petrol engines: A remap on a turbo petrol engine is going to result in a 20% – 30% increase in power and torque and a smoother power band.
Remapping Turbo-diesel engines: A remap on a turbo-diesel engine is going to result in a 20% – 30% increase in power and a 25% – 40% increase in torque.
No matter what engine your car has, an increase in low-end pulling power (torque) and top end power (horsepower) is going to completely transform the way you drive your car. You won’t have to plan so far ahead when overtaking anymore and you won’t have any trouble keeping up with faster traffic anymore. By far the biggest improvement you will find after a remap is just how smooth your car delivers its power; it’ll feel quicker across the rev range and this is going to put a smile on your face. In fact, it’ll feel like you’re driving a completely different car.
Here’s four reasons you should get your car remapped by Hyperchips Manchester:
So if you are planning on buying a new car because yours isn’t quick enough, consider a remap first. And remember, if your car has already been remapped and you’re still bored, you could try a Stage 2 tune or Stage 3 tune.
